We are happy to introduce Snaps & Rye -a new Danish restaurant that opened only weeks ago in Notting Hill, bringing an exciting new Scandinavian restaurant and shop concept to the buzzing food scene in London.
Eat in! In stylish Scandinavian surroundings you can enjoy a Danish breakfast with homemade Danish pastries including Tebirkes and Spanduer and Øllebrød or a Danish rye bread porridge. For lunch they serve traditional Danish Smørrebrød.
Or take away! The Snaps & Rye shop sells Danish food and design items, books, gifts and crockery as well as having a great selection of Snaps, Danish Beer. In typically Danish style Snaps & Rye also have a “Milk Plus” white cargo bicycle for West London deliveries.
We met up with the owners of Snaps & Rye, the husband and wide team Kell & Jacqueline Skött.
In max 5 words, what is Snaps & Rye all about?
Danish food, drink, design and hygge.
What will Snaps & Rye add to the food scene in London?
London is a fabulous mish-mash of so many different cultures, nationalities and food, however we noticed this incredible gap in the market in that no-one was specialising in Danish cuisine and thus the concept of Snaps & Rye was born. Golborne Road offers the most fabulously bonkers blend of international culture and cuisine, Morrocan, Italian, French, Portuguese to name a few that it felt the perfect location for our little piece of Denmark.
Where will the Snaps & Rye food be sourced from?
Our rye bread and Danish pastries are made on site by our pastry chef, Trine Eriksen-Johnson. We also work with renowned Danish baker Søren Holm who acts as an advisor for Snaps & Rye and recently came over to give Trine a masterclass. Kell has been developing the recipe for our homemade rye bread to perfection over the past 18 months.
How is the Scandinavian identity important to the restaurant?
Kell is Danish born and raised, so is our chef Trine and the majority of the front of house team. Wherever possible our products have been produced in Denmark, and every dish has been created in the traditional Danish way. All of our food is served on Anne Black crockery imported from Denmark and our guests eat using Danish-made cutlery and so it is safe to say that the Scandinavian identity lies at the very essence of Snaps & Rye. Our primary aim with Snaps & Rye was to create somewhere which embodied the Danish concept of ‘hygge’, a warm, friendly, inclusive space, where our guests can feel at home.
